The ancient civilizations use to consider that music was the top of the arts, the most important of the sciences, and way to the most powerfull spiritual ilumination and the bottom of a established and harmonious society. Along time these concepts are outstanding only during the last century, and were abandoned and lost almost all the belief in the music as a strenght that was capable of changing the human being and the society.
In truth, the ancient people believed with no doubt, that the sound was able of the most fantastic performances, and they were also worried with the most common effects of the sound and of the music over the human soul and the society. If the music of a civilization had been under the control of the bad and the stupid, the ancient people believed that it could have brought the civilization to an inevitable ruin. In the hands of the iluminated, the music was an instrument of beauty and power, capable of conducting all one race to an era of golden peace, progress and fraternity. Above any other thing, the great thinkers of ancient time pointed out the vigorous effect of music above man's character.
Either Platon or Aristoteles talked over the moral effect of music in many of its masterpieces. Music and moral. Will there be in reality a connection between them? The idea that music make a powerfull influence over the character of men, persisted in a scale during the midle age and the renascence, until the last century.
The concept that music has any influence over the human being character, was the spiring strenght of the creative lives of great classical and romantic composers. For sure it one of them felt their own music as one as the most powerfull means of influences in the consciousness and in the direction of human race. The war and the politicians come and go, but the music still exists indefinitly and it will never be a lack of interest and will allways sensibilise the mind and heart of everyone that hear it.
